The “ Big Burqa Debate in Australia”

August 8, 2010 by Reporter 2 Comments

A  WA Perth judge in Western Australia is set to decide whether a Muslim woman can wear a full burqa while giving evidence before a jury  in court in a fraud case.

Burqa In australia

Anwar Sayed from perth WA  has been charged with fraudulently obtaining $1.125 million from the state and federal governments by falsifying the number of students at the Muslim Ladies College of Australia in Kenwick in Perth’s south.

The witness in this case , Tasneem, wants to wear a full burqa while giving evidence in court in the fraud trial of Muslim school director Anwar Sayed. The woman is a strict practising Muslim who does not want to show her face to men. Tasneem was an Islamic studies teacher at the Muslim Ladies College of Australia in Kenwick, south of Perth, in 2006. The school is run by Muslim Link Australia, and Sayed is the director.

Burqa – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A burqa (Arabic pronunciation: [ˈbʊrqaʕ]; also transliterated burkha, burka or burqua from Arabic: برقع‎ burqu’ or burqa‘ ) is an enveloping outer garment

Updated News 07/08/2010 :

Burqa case defendant stabbed‎ – 1 day ago

The concerns were raised in Perth’s District Court during legal argument about whether a prosecution witness could wear her burqa while giving evidence

Defence lawyers have raised concerns about how the jury is expected to read the woman’s facial expressions if they cannot see her face.

He said it was believed to be the first time in Australia that a witness had wanted to wear a full burqa

Prosecutor Mark Ritter told the court 36-year-old Tasneem wanted to give evidence, but would feel uncomfortable without her burqa and that could prejudice the way she presented her evidence. District Court Judge Shauna Deane heard lawyers’ submissions on Thursday as to whether the woman, a witness for the prosecution in a fraud trial, should be allowed to wear the full burqa, also known as a niqab. After the jury was discharged, defence lawyer Mark Trowell told reporters a jury would not be able to “make a proper assessment” of the witness if they could not see her face.

Abbott finds  the “burqa’confronting”

Tony Abbott says he would like to see fewer women in Australia wearing burqas.

“I don’t want to interfere in the operations of our legal system but I have said it before and let me say it again, I find the Burqa a particularly confronting form of attire,” Mr Abbott said.

PM  Julia Gillard enters debate on Burqa

Australian prime-minister-julia-gillard

The Prime Minister this morning commented on the case, saying woman giving evidence in court should be forced to remove face-covering burqas. Ms Gillard said she thought it was one of the “limited” instances when it should be removed.

“I worked as a lawyer for eight years, I ran a lot of cases, I interviewed a lot of clients, having done that it can be very difficult to tell whether or not people are telling you the truth,” she said.

So why do muslim women wear burqa ?

The “burqa  or niqab” is a piece of clothing that covers a woman from head to foot. There is an opening for the eyes, but the rest of the body, except the hands, are covered. The burqa or niqab is usually made of light clothing, and is essentially outerwear for some Muslim women in some regions. It is worn when women leave their homes, over their indoor clothes. It’s not worn indoors in the presence of family

Lets get a couple of things straight. Women in Burqas in Australia are not going out of their way to conceal bombs under their clothes. They are not about trying to destroy our way of life. They are doing the same thing that the rest of us do – trying to live their lives in a quiet peaceful way. Live and let live i say.
Its like the whole gay marriage debate. So many people are so passionate about denying gay people the right to marry. Why? How does someone else who you don’t know, nor will ever know give you cause for concern? What does it matter to you what someone else does with their life?

Western Australia Top performer in Economic rankings between states

July 27, 2010 by Reporter 3 Comments

Economic rankings Australian states 2010

Western Australia  has beaten other states to become the best performing economy in Australia

according to the latest CommSec state and territory economic rankings. The ACT had held the

mantle over the past two quarterly surveys but it is clear that Western Australia has now fully

shrugged off the effects of the global financial crisis, underpinned by a strong job market and

rising demand for resources.

Economic report 2010

South Australia is the ‘quiet’ performer, with strong population growth underpinning solid commercial and
engineering construction. But middle-ranking unemployment is restraining momentum in the housing and retail
sectors.

Tony Abbott does it again

July 17, 2010 by Reporter 3 Comments

Tony  makes  his speech debut for coming 2010 elections in style

Tony Abbott today made a bloody terrific speech . which  will definetly sway  many a voter to the other side  and i m not kidding.

Steve Dickson MP

I have been a labor supporter  for some time now .. but really got disillusioned by how the whole rudd gillard  fight for chair affair was put forward in front of the whole world. Today listening to Tony abbotts speech  made me want to switch sides for the first time.

Here is what tony abbot said in his speech today:

A change of government would “end the spin and incompetence which he said had marred the Rudd-Gillard government and which had worsened over the three weeks since Ms Gillard ousted Mr Rudd as prime minister.

Mr Abbott said it was hard to trust Ms Gillard.

“Why should people trust a new prime minister who said she’d fix the messes her own government created,” he said.

“She failed to do so and is now rushing to the polls before she has established her credentials to govern.”

Mr Abbott asked why should people trust Ms Gillard when even her Mr Rudd could not.

Latest News

“Why should people trust a government that can’t say who would be the foreign minister, who would be the defence minister and who would be the finance minister if the government is re-elected,” he said.

“And why should people trust a prime minister who can’t guarantee that she would serve a full term because she can’t be sure that the factions would let her.”

Can you trust your friends ??

June 24, 2010 by Reporter 1 Comment

In a shocking act of betrayal , the labor party  backstabbed thier own leader Kevin Rudd to  install Julia Gillard as the new prime minister  of Australia.

People shocked over Julia Gillard Takeover

People all over the country were shocked to  see the drama  within the labor party unfolding on tv and hear the bad news today morning  that Our prime minister  has decided to take a back seat for the good of the party.

Was this a necessary step to be taken  and will this  do anything  to prevent for the labor party  dip in polls  , from what the current polls are telling us , it does  not  show any difference in where the polls for labor was already heading , which is downwards.  Will this calculated move by  Julia Gillard and her supporters pay off or will it be the demise of Labor party’s down fall and  the oppositions win only time will tell.

Julia gillard prime minister australia kevin rudd

Incoming prime minister “ julia Gillard”

People all over the country  are shocked  to see thier elected leader , being  booted out  and back stabbed by his own colleagues . The rumour mill on the internet  also  has suggestions that this was all orchestrated by the big miners  behind the scenes.

This installing of Julia Gillard will definitely be lauded by many of the feminists  and  off course Julia Gillard supporters. How she manages to  stick on to her post  and for how long by this coup only time will tell again.

International Registry of Backstabbers

Here are some reactions by the public on  the Julia Gillard & Kevin Rudd  Prime minister Drama

Jack Marx – News.com.au
For what’s happened today is undemocratic. It is typical of what Labor has been doing, all over the country, for years now (…) That Australians voted Kevin Rudd into office means absolutely nothing to the Labor Party. The Labor Party does not care a fig who you voted for, because it is they who are in power. That’s the thinking.

Julia gillard prime minister australia kevin rudd australian

Outgoing prime minister “kevin Rudd”

The Daily Telegraph’s national political editor Malcolm Farr said the challenge for Labor was to “… somehow draw a line between Rudd and Gillard, and not just a distinction based on style”.
“Fat chance,” he wrote. “If Kevin Rudd has made clunky decisions over the past six months, so has Julia Gillard.

Peter Hartcher – Sydney Morning Herald
Labor has just wasted a prime minister, in every sense. The party did exactly what Julia Gillard had been warning supporters against doing for months – it burned through a perfectly electable prime minister in a single term.

LAILA REDDY of NSW Posted at 1:51 PM Today

Kevin Rudd performed under most difficult times and kept Australians above water. What else could we ask for?Now we all will sink either with Gillard or Tony Abbott.

Paul Colgan – The Punch
It took his political execution for Kevin Rudd to show some authenticity again. His last press conference as Prime Minister was a harrowing affair. By turns there was pride, shame, shock, gratitude, humility, even a touch of the old arrogance, all against the backdrop of the sudden, swift, and merciless betrayal. I’m told some journalists who were present in the Prime Minister’s Courtyard were close to tears.

Pauline of Darwin Posted at 1:49 PM Today

I am very dissapointed that the Labor party went the same way as the Liberals, they need to look at themselves very hard now that have done this, I agree with Debbie from Alice Springs, what did he have to do walk on bloody water, noone complained when he handed out the cash only the ones who didnt get it, I was proud to have voted for him and Australia really needs to pull their heads in. Who will they blame now Julia or Tony great choices

Jia of Sydney Posted at 1:53 PM Today

I am proud of Kevin Rudd as a person and great leader of this great country. I cannot accept an old colleague doing this to him!

Miles of Adelaide Posted at 1:50 PM Today

As bad as Kevin was, I feel he is a much better represntative for our country than Julia ‘Kath & Kim’ Gillard. The simple fact is though, the party and it’s policies are still the same – changing the figure head really has negligible difference!!

Damir Krcelj of Parramatta Posted at 1:56 PM Today

I feel for Keving Rudd. No one deserves to be treated and backstabbed the way he was treated this morning. He just wasn;t up for the job but to have someone like PM Gillard and wayne swan who he knew him since school to backstabb him is not good. With friend like that who need enemies.

Hall of fame or shame with “racist comments” tarnishing the sporting industry

June 19, 2010 by Reporter 2 Comments

The hall of fame is soon turning to the hall of shame  with sports stars  doing the unthinkable . Potty mouths were never so much in fashion before  and  the media  and junta  and definitely not taking any of it  and throwing heaps of soap at them.

Here is a headline from Media :

AFL legend ‘Dipper’ stood down in new racism storm –

Robert DiPierdomenico has been stood down indefinitely from his role as an AFL ambassador for Auskick following a racist comment he made at a public function last week. He described fellow Brownlow medallist Gavin Wanganeen as "not too bad for an Abo".
