Safe Tech – 5 Technologies That Are Making Us Safer at Work and at Home

May 12, 2019 by Reporter Leave a Comment

Cars are beginning to brake, park and drive themselves today, working towards safer driving and fewer accidents. It only makes sense that if our cars can get safer and smarter, so can our homes and our workplaces. Below are five different ideas how to use technology to keep you safer at work and at home.

  1. Smart Door Locks

It may be time to consider replacing your keyed lock with new smart door lock technology. You could open your door with a code or a fingerprint! Some locks pair with video doorbells to enable you to open the door for a visiting friend or relative with your smartphone. Before you upgrade your door lock, check the sturdiness of your door to ensure that burglars won’t easily circumvent an impressive lock.

  1. Video Doorbells

While you are upgrading your door, why not add in a video doorbell? The footage that these video cameras capture can allow you to check that your child made it home safely from school or catch a potential package thief using facial recognition software. You can even chat with folks on your doorstep with some models. There are lots of different models out there so you will want to be sure you do your research and get the features that are the most important to you.

  1. Smart Home Control Systems

Do you ever turn the lights on when you leave the house just to make it look like someone is home? With a smart home control system, you not only control your lights, but you can also close the garage door, and turn off valves if any water is leaking or overflowing. Your peace of mind can significantly increase by knowing that your control system will notify you of anything you need to attend to immediately and also give you the capability to take action via your smartphone.

  1. Security Systems

In nearly all workplaces, security systems are “a must” because it is believed that burglars are deterred by cameras and alarm warnings. Security systems at home are equally, if not more advanced than those found in the workplace. Some tie in with smart home ecosystems and can be controlled by devices like Alexa. Most systems include both door and window sensors while others go so far as to add smoke detectors. Whichever system you decide to use, you should check how it is monitored and what the expected response time is for the alarm company.

  1. Drones

Workplace safety is not just about security, it is about checking conditions of job sites as well. Drones are becoming a larger part of this conversation because they can help in a variety of areas. Some are being used to patrol large premises and capture intruders on video. In other locations, drones are used to check for hazardous materials or dangerous job site conditions. Drones have also proven to be an incredible tool for disaster situations for their ability to get large amounts of data in relatively little time with no risk to human life.

Technology continues to advance faster than we can possibly imagine, so why not put those advances to work creating a safer home and workplace? Monitor your porch with a video doorbell. Eliminate the need for a key with a new smart lock. Tie it all together with a smart home control system and/or a compatible security system. At work, consider utilizing drones for security and safety purposes. Invest in making the places you spend the majority of your day the safest they can be.

Another Qantas Incident on Perth to London flight

July 31, 2011 by Reporter 1 Comment

31 July 2011: Qantas had another incident today  on its Perth to London flight that left  Perth on July 30 .  we just got informed by a passenger who was travelling on the flight that the Qantas flight midway between Singapore and London  suddenly started descending rapidly mid –air and swaying side to side.

The  pilot announced that there was turbulence later.  She said she felt as if the aircraft had lost control as it was swaying wildly  and descended rapidly for some time.

Qantas turbulence problems on london flight

Qantas has been hit by a string of problems   in recent years

ground-qantas - problem

Quote passenger from the Perth to London flight on qantas

“They said it was turbulence but it was quite bad turbulence and am not sure the pilot handled it well cos the landing was bad too. About 3 hours after take off from Singapore, the flight suddenly started to shake and sway from side to side and lose altitude and the crew ran to their stations. Lunch trays fell off the tables and people were clutching their seats, the girl in front of me started feeing pukey. This went on for about 5 minutes and then there was an announcement saying it was turbulence and will last for 15 minutes, which made me relieved that it wasn’t engine problems. Incidentally this aircraft was delayed by 2 hours from taking off from its starting point, Melbourne so I guess this got us all even more panicky. But yes, thank God we ere all safe.”

This incident that occurred today  sounds quite similar to this previous incident  which has occured before with a Qantas flight.  More detailed information to follow soon…..

Cats eating more fish that their owners

January 7, 2011 by Reporter Leave a Comment

“In many cases they are eating better quality fish than their owners”. Leading this fishy business is the US, where more than 1.1 million tonnes of small forage fish, including sardines, herrings and anchovies, go into cat food.

Each cat in Australia eats 13.7 kilograms of fish a year, while humans on average consume about 11 kilograms of fish and seafood each.

“Good fish is being wasted because of some pet owners’ hedonistic needs when feeding their pets.”  GOURMET meals dished up to pampered pets could be threatening world fish supplies, Victorian scientists have warned. 2,48 million tonnes of “forage” fish ie sardines, herrings and anchovies, are being consumed by the world’s cat population via the cat food industry, each year. That means about 13.7 kg per putty cat, purr year. Note, that is, only if you have an Aussie cat, not all global cats are so lucky (or included in the study).

“Australian pet cats are eating better than their owners,” Friggin felines are messing with our fish supplies and denying third world countries. A recent report draws attention to the cat food industry’s use of forage fish, which includes sardines and herrings and is considered a limited biological resource.researchers have discovered that cats eat 2 and a half tons of real fish each year and not only that, it’s the good stuff. In other words cats are eating fish that could be consumed by humans when they could be eating the guts, heads and the rest of the offal. Australia “Jeans ad ban” creates news over the world

October 23, 2010 by Reporter Leave a Comment

Authorities have “banned” supermodel Lara Stone’s latest Calvin Klein advertisement in Australia,

alleging that the photographs promoted “violence and rape”. A leading Australian feminist on Friday slammed the Advertising Standards Bureau (ASB) for banning a billboard advertising campaign for Calvin Klein jeans it considered “suggestive of violence and rape”.

The Dutch beauty is pictured in her underwear lying among a group of men,

with one male model straddling her suggestively while the other pulling her hair.
After receiving complaints, officials at the country’s Advertising Standards Bureau branded the ads “demeaning to women” and ruled the campaign must be scrapped, reports aceshowbiz.com.

Melbourne University lecturer Lauren Rosewarne told national broadcaster ABC that the ASB was

wrongly equating group sex with gang rape.

“The board considered that whilst the act depicted could be consensual, the overall impact and most likely takeout is that the scene is suggestive of violence and rape,” the organisation said in a statement.

The hoardings, which were taken down in Sydney and Melbourne after more than 50 complaints, depict model Lara Stone, the Dutch-born wife of British comedian David Walliams, without most of her clothes and being wrestled by near-naked men.
