Top Tips to Remember When Managing Credit Card Debts

April 22, 2015 by Reporter Leave a Comment

Today, most people are suffering with overwhelming credit card debts. The truth is that managing debts can be quite difficult. If not careful, credit cards can turn out to be quite problematic.

how to manage credit card debt

Although the government has come up with innumerable changes in credit card laws, it is important to remember a number of things when dealing with credit. Knowing how to manage credit card debt effectively is very important. The following are top tips that will help you manage these kinds of debts in the most prudent way:

Regularly update your credit report

Every year, you should obtain a credit report from any of the three main credit bureaus. This way, you can stay up to date with your credit status. You can effortlessly avoid any default payments. You also need to check carefully for any fraudulent or inaccurate entries. If you find any mistakes, make sure you get them changed or removed as soon as possible.

Never co-sign with an individual with a credit risk

So what co-signing entail? Whenever you co-sign a loan with an individual with bad credit, things might get quite difficult for you. You will be fully responsible if the primary borrower is not able to repay the debt. Consequently, to be on the safe side, avoid co-signing with such an individual altogether.

Avoid giving different identification information

Always give the same identification information everywhere. Avoid changing your identification information anytime or every time you are applying for credit. Your basic information includes social security number, telephone number, and name. Always keep them the same to prevent any cases of duplicate credit files. This will go miles in helping prevent credit fraud charges. For instance, if you choose to use your middle name on one of your credit cards, make sure you do the same on the others.

Always use your own name when applying for credit

It is very important always to obtain credit in your own name. Failure to have a credit report means you won’t be able to make huge purchases like a home or car. You can always exercise rights over your partner’s account after getting married. Nevertheless, in case of a divorce, you will lose this right. Consequently, it is very important to obtain credit in your own name.

Refrain from applying too many credit cards

Sometimes, credit cards normally do not give a true sense of achievement. Most often, you will end up with debts. The rule of thumb is that credit cards should strictly be for emergencies. This is unlike what most people do. They use the cards everywhere and anywhere. To avoid these problems, always use cash to pay for your regular expenditures. If you carry only a handful of cards, you can effortlessly track down your expenditures. This will help you incur less debt even in the days to come.

If you find yourself in huge amounts of debt, you can rely on national debt relief programs for a way out.

How to do a national police check

March 31, 2015 by Reporter Leave a Comment

In many countries and industries, there is a need to do a mandatory national police check in order to know the type of the people that a company or employer wants to use.

police detective

A police check can be taken and found online which makes it an easy, straightforward and simple way to access such information. Whenever you use InfoTrack to get access to such information, you will be confident that you are getting an accredited and correct police check. After filling in your information in the check application, you can use a tablet, mobile phone and webcam to verify who you are. There will be no need to post the application form or any ID since the system is done completely online.

You may have to do a police check, if you are seeking to enter into the private homes of people, if you want to work in hospitals, schools and aged care facilities, if you will come into contact with children who are under 18 years old or if you want to work in any health care discipline.

What is the point of a police check?

A national police check is about checking the police history of an applicants and it is needed not only for employment but also for many potential different reasons like visa applications and screening. It is also a requirement if you want to apply for an Australian Credit or Financial Services Licenses.

The search involves identifying and releasing of relevant information and it is subject to the relevant conviction, information policies and non-disclosure legislations. The checks on an individual can be done only when the person who has to be checked has given his or her consent that he or she wants to be checked.

The process of a police check involves accessing a central index that contains any and all persons and the names of the interest to the police, including convictions. When there is a possibility of a match, the person has to be referred to the police in order to be evaluated against their records. When everything has been confirmed to be above board, the person will get a National Police Certificate.

It is good for any business to know the people who they want to get involved into their company by performing a national police check. Remembering that the success of any business is based on the employees that work with the company.

A police check helps to verify the accuracy of the claims of the candidate on their CV before making a final decision! Some research has shown that some resumes contain lies about academic qualifications, work history or professional association.

Always make sure that you conduct a police check for an employees (and also for companies – if you need to!)

Sadly, it is no longer safe for an employer to assume that their candidates have shown complete honest by using only their certificates and by accepting a copy of their resume.

Some documentation can be untrue or falsified, but when you do a police check on an employee that you want to hire, you will protect your business against reputation risks, non-compliance, brand damage, decreasing of share price, embezzlements, low employee productivity and morale, the theft of the goods, and possible theft of intellectual and equipment/property. Your company will also reduce possible recruitment costs, the turnover of the staff, and they will improve reliability and honesty across the board.

A national police check gives the results about the Australia-wide court outcomes including any pending charges that are deemed to be disclosable during the time that the application is being made.

The check can take around 15 days to be completed and the results will be sent to the address provided on the form. Depending on how you are applying for the check, you can get the results in less than 2 days.

The application forms are faster and they take only few minutes to fill. The services of the company are trusted and secure, and seek to provide the highest level of data encryption and secure back up processes.

7 Things You Can Do When You Own Your Own Home

March 24, 2015 by Reporter Leave a Comment

Owning your own home is a great dream of many young Australians, or even many older Australians who haven’t quite managed to get there yet!

home loans

The reasons for wanting to own your own home are rich and varied, and different from person to person. It might be that you love painting the walls of your home every six months. If so, then a rental house probably isn’t for you! Other people like to build things in their living room out of clay and Papier-mâché. This sadly will damage the floor of a rental house, so if this is you, you big artist you, you had better start saving for your own home now! If you’re worried about the finance side of things, why not browse home loans on the Homestart website for some advice and inspiration?

We have taken the liberty of compiling a list of seven things that you can do when you own your own home as an added incentive! So without further ado, let’s get started.

1. You can paint the walls, the ceiling, and the floor any colour that you like! You can also paint them any time you like as well, which means that you can constantly update the living room to suit your mood if you so desire! If you’re a big decorator but concerned about the cost of the paint why not think about getting some wall paper or fun coverings?

2. You can decorate the place however you want and not worry about putting nails in the wall for the paintings! If you have a particularly large collection of art, this is going to be a big game changer for you! Finally you can have the gallery room you have always dreamed of!

3. You can have people around in your backyard and put down a giant slip and slide, knowing that the grass in’t going to be an issue. If you ruin it, it’s your own fault – no landlords to worry about!

4. You can renovate when ever you want to change your home around, without having to ask permission. Think back to all the share houses that you lived in when you were studying and travelling around… I bet there were some rooms that you could’ve put some extra love and care into! Well now you can flex your designer muscles whenever you feel like it. Don’t like that wall? Great! Knock it down!

5. Have a spare room why not think about renting it out on Airbnb for some extra money? It might be just the spare cash you need to start planning a renovation, which after all you can do whenever you want, because you’re a homeowner, remember?

6. You can move out of it and get tenants in to rent it while you go travelling overseas, giving you some pocket money to play with! This one is actually a really key benefit to owning your own home, because the one of the purposes of owning your own home – apart from being a home for you to live in – is that it’s a way to generate money for retirement and to invest again.

7. You can use the money from the home that you own in the form of leverage to buy another house as an investment property. Now, if the last item was key, then this is completely integral to your wealth plan! Think about buying a house not only as a home but also as an investment for your future. Good luck, and happy saving.

The best things come to those who wait (and those who save) so if this list has inspired you, get started today. Don’t waste another moment!

Small Businesses Insurance Policies with Combined Coverage

February 8, 2015 by Reporter Leave a Comment

Running a small business require the owner to know a few things related to it. They will need to know about their products, market and a few other things like insuring their business cost effectively. Keeping the costs down is very important to stay afloat. Otherwise, businesses may struggle to make the ends meet even though they are successful in sales.

Insuring Your Business

Insurance is a great tool to control the unknown risks by passing them over to insurers. Businesses can buy policies to get protected against theft, fire, flood, other weather related damages, accidents, employee injuries and injuries and damages to public. Most insurance companies offer well thought combined policies to handle most of those risks.

Commercial combined coverage packages are suitable for most small and medium businesses. They can be bought for shops, warehouses, manufacturers, caterers and many other enterprises. They may come under different names like shop, restaurant or manufacturer packages. Whatever they may be called they serve the same purpose and consist of similar covers.

Combined Business Insurance Policies

Most insurers offer commercial insurance policies that cover most risks associated with running a business under one policy. Entrepreneurs can save money, time and get peace of mind with these packages. Here is what they would usually include:

Property

Rebuilding cost of the premises can be included in the coverage if it is owned. This will eliminate the need to insure it separately that can offer substantial savings. Some combined policies that include the building coverage too can be cheaper than buying standalone building insurance.

Stock

One of the first thing people want to insure is their stock. Generally, estimated value of the stock would be enough to cover them against the listed perils.

Goods in Transit

Most manufacturers and suppliers would have goods in transit and their commercial policy would cover it outside of their warehouses while they are on the way to customers. If the vehicle carrying them has an accident business insurers will step in to pay for the spoiled goods. The Auto insurer pays the damages to the vehicle separately.

Loss of Profit

When the premises suffer damages that prevent the business from operating the owner suffers losses and still has to pay for overheads. Overheads like wages, rent, local taxes, and leases will be covered by the insurers including reasonable loss of profits so that owners can pay their living expenses. This portion of the policy will look at historical accounts to judge the loss.

Glass

When there is shop-front it can be included to get compensation just in case glass gets smashed.

Employers Liabilities

Most countries legally require employers’ liabilities coverage. Generally a good combined policy will have more than legally required amount of liabilities coverage. It is essential in any business to make sure that employees are insured against work related injuries. Small business owners are not equipped to deal with lengthy injury claims on their own and they would be very pleased that their insurers will deal with them. Also, they wouldn’t want to run into legal problems.

Public Liability

Another essential part of business insurance policies is public liabilities coverage. When there are customers, delivery drivers and other people regularly visiting the premises it is essential to buy public liabilities coverage just in case they suffer an injury inside your shop, warehouse or factory. They may also suffer after consuming/using the products or have other problems with it.

When the property is included in the coverage this will come with property owners liability as well. It is important to point out that public liability is different from professional indemnity. Advice based businesses like accountants, solicitors and financial advisors would normally need professional indemnity policy separately.

Combined policies are comprehensive as discussed above and yet they can be very economical. It would be confusing and very expensive to insure all the above risks separately. That is why small business owners should look for them.

School Branding Items for Alumni Members Produce Positive Responses

August 13, 2014 by Reporter Leave a Comment

Conveying a School’s Message

us vs australian school programs alumni

School branding items for alumni members are a great way to positively send out a school’s message and its focus on academics. For example, the Columbia Business School, which was established in 1916, features over 100 affiliated clubs. In addition, alumni are invited to a variety of programs throughout the year that are sponsored by student associations that focus on the various aspects of business and academics.

Keeping Team Spirit Alive

Therefore, school branding items for alumni members, regardless of their school affiliation, are ideal products to display or wear to either commemorate an alma mater or to keep a school’s team spirit alive. Items such as caps, t-shirts, cups, and refrigerator magnets allow graduates to demonstrate school pride, and, again, communicate positively about their accomplishments.

Giving a Product a “Personality”

The brand experience itself is distinguished from a brand’s image or a brand association. Brand association gives a “personality” to a product – attributes that distinguish one academic institution from the next. The addition of logos and lettering impact how consumers respond to the “brands.”

School Reunions – Anniversaries and International Events

The use of school branding is also a great way to may a school reunion memorable. Graduates can appreciate the products they receive, whether celebrating their one-year or 50-year anniversary. The use of the items has an immense impact when they are used to celebrate global reunions and celebrations too – all which underscores a school’s international brand.

Thanking Alumni for their Support

The proud and loyal alumni of a school are what make a university or college great. Therefore, school branding items are also products that can be use to applaud a graduate’s achievements or demonstrate a school’s appreciation to its members and graduates. In addition, school branding items are great items to send to donors as “thank you” gifts. The items can also serve as giveaways for gatherings, such as football homecomings, or take the form of memorable keepsakes at sorority or fraternity events.

Why Consistency in Branding is Important

Consistently displaying the school “brand” through the use of a specific typeface, school colors and graphics enables prospective students to better identify with and understand the message that a school is trying to convey. When a school regularly features its logo and colors on branded items, it is better able to extend its academic reach. Doing so makes it clear to both alumni and prospects that the institution is focused on maintaining an image that is based on such qualities as strength and longevity and a history of tradition and pride.

Some of the Popular Items

Some of the popular school branding items that are featured online include custom water bottles and golf accessories. Items are also available in the form of apparel, bags, calendars, caps, buttons and badges, and clocks or watches. “Thank you” gifts might include desktop products or notebooks and folios. You can see these items and more by checking out http://www.promotiveschools.com.au/. The website displays promotional items that give you a wide variety of options in product offerings.

Academic and Athletic Pride

Indeed, school branding items are items that cannot be overlooked when an institution is recognizing and thanking its alumni. The message conveyed by such products adds to both positive communications and academic and athletic pride. To convey your own school’s special message to your alumni visit http://www.promotiveschools.com.au/

Tax time and Claiming the IRS Mileage Rate in US

July 1, 2014 by Reporter Leave a Comment

tax time iRS images

If You Claim IRS Mileage Rate Deduction: Keep a Log! If you drive your car for work and your employer doesn’t reimburse you, then you’re probably looking to take an IRS mileage rate deduction when you do your taxes. No problem, the IRS handles these deductions all the time, it’s perfectly fine. One thing to know is that you should keep a written log of your business miles driven.

To Claim the IRS Mileage Rate, You Must Document Your Driving

In fact, if you don’t keep a written log of your business miles, the IRS can disallow your mileage deduction partially or even altogether. Some people drive a lot for business, and there are people who stand to lose $10,000 or even more if they don’t substantiate the claims they make for the IRS mileage rate. Even if your mileage deduction is denied and you go to court, don’t count on being able to write up a log after the miles were driven.

There are court cases where the defendants created written logs after mileage deduction was denied and these cases went to court. No go, said the IRS! Mileage summary must be entered at the time the miles were driven. Denied! The IRS is very good at winning travel deduction cases. Especially when the defendant doesn’t keep proper records. What’s needed is called proper substantiation.

Your mileage rate substantiation is especially important. In addition to a written log of your business miles driven, keep all your receipts as well. You may have guessed but there are some handy tools for keeping records of receipts, too. There’s a service called Shoeboxed which allows you to take a picture of a receipt and upload it to your own receipt account, where they will store it and digitalize it for your tax records. Way cool.

How to Keep an IRS Mileage Log for Your Business Mileage Deduction

You should keep a notebook in your car. Or get an app for your phone, even easier. There are already at least a dozen out there, just search on mileage tracker, trip log, business expense tracker app etc.

  • You will need to record the number of miles driven for each particular trip
  • You will need to write down the time you drove
  • You will need to record your destination
  • You will need to record the reason for driving these miles (business purpose)

These records will help you prove that your business miles were not for commuting. Miles you drive to commute to work are not tax deductible. You cannot apply the IRS mileage rate to commuting miles. Keep good records and you will be able to prove you drove your miles for business.

When you multiply your miles by the standard IRS mileage rate of around $.55 per mile, they really add up to a nice tax deduction. For more on the IRS mileage rate visit the IRS website page called Car & Truck Expense Deduction Reminders. Floyd Davis CPA IRS Publications

First Aid in the Office – What Every Start up needs to know

June 14, 2014 by Reporter Leave a Comment

first aid and safety and wellbeing supplies

In most start-up offices, it’s wonderfully rare that anyone should need to use the first aid kit, and for the most part it’s not something that staff needs to think about on a regular basis.

Office emergencies are relatively rare and as such it can be very tempting to forget about making a priority of office safety and taking the appropriate health and safety measures. Even though people in start-ups tend to be young and carefree – first aid is a necessity.

As with anything in life, however, disaster always seems to strike when we’re least prepared, and that’s why the law states that it’s absolutely essential to keep your kit well stocked and ready, as well as ensuring that you and all other employees are well versed in the first aid workplace policies in your area.

We’ve put together a few things you need to know about first aid in the office in order to help you gather all the supplies you need to deal quickly and efficiently with an emergency situation:

Appoint a Health and Safety Officer

If you haven’t done this already, it’s vital that you do; appointing someone in this capacity to ensure that the kit is properly stocked at all times and that everyone is apprised of the appropriate policies and procedures will go a long way toward not only obeying the law but avoiding disaster should a real emergency occur.

Assess the Situation

Not every office has the same needs as far as their first aid kit, particularly as not every office has the same level of staffing, risk and/or activity; perform a comprehensive risk assessment to ascertain the supplies you should keep on hand in order to address an emergency; be intelligent and remember it’s better to be slightly over prepared then left floundering in a bad situation.

Leave Out Potential Allergens

Depending on how many office staff you have, there are a wide variety of potential allergens in the average kit, from ointment and painkillers to other over-the-counter meds; if someone in the office requires any of these items for health reasons, they should be able to supply them on their own, while keeping them away from others who may be allergic.

Post Your Medical Emergency Plan

Writing and posting your formal emergency plan is a must in any office; information should be posted in a position where it is readily available when required and all employees should be apprised of both its location and contents.

The plan should include the address and phone number of the office, as well as the location of the first aid kits and any staff members who are specially trained to administer assistance; also include any emergency numbers as well as directions to and contact information for the medical services facilities closest to your location.

Keeping employees informed is a vital part of dealing with an emergency quickly and efficiently.

Buy Prepackaged

There are a variety of companies who sell prepackaged first aid kits and purchasing one of these handy supplies has a few advantages; first of all, as experts in emergency supplies, they’ll know firsthand the items a company such as yours may require; these kits are also quite conspicuously marked and recognizable to employees, and the items inside are generally of sound quality.

So regardless of how unlikely an office emergency seems at your place of work, always be well stocked and prepared for a first aid emergency; keeping all staff well informed and ready will go a long way toward dealing with a crisis in the most safe and effective way.
