A no-fly zone (or no-flight zone) is a territory over which aircraft are not permitted to fly. Such zones are usually set up in a military context, somewhat like a demilitarized zone in the sky, and usually prohibit military aircraft of a belligerent nation from operating in the region. – From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

UN Security Council Resolution 1973 authorises the use of all means necessary to protect civilians, including air strikes, and the creation of a no-fly zone to prevent Moamer Kadhafi attacking rebels. Mr Rudd has been campaigning for a no-fly zone over Libya for several weeks and says Australia was “banging the drum” for quite a while.
Middle East Uprisings
The Libyan revolt is the bloodiest of popular uprisings in the Middle East this year that have toppled Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
There have also been anti-government demonstrations in Yemen, Bahrain, Jordan, Syria, Algeria, Iran, Iraq and Oman, calling for democracy and improved living standards.
