Telecommuting – RDP can Save Your Business Money & Increase Productivity

June 7, 2013 by Reporter Leave a Comment

The Australian Bureau of Statistics reported there are over 1 million businesses being run from home. It marks a move towards running your own business and taking control of your own destiny. Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) gives you the freedom to work with any PC remotely by just opening a window on any other machine.

remote working for australia with NBN

It can save your business money and enhance productivity. With telecommuting and remote working becoming more popular, RDP is essential.

Control Your Fleet

You don’t need to have access to a computer to control it. An RDP client for Mac, for example, can have nine RDP clients open at the same time to control nine separate machines. It’s just a matter of closing the window to log off the machine.

It’s such an increase in productivity because you can completely remove the problem of physical distance. An employee can switch on their personal computer and access their work computer from home.

Remote Desktop Services (RDS)

RDS is closely related to RDP. Most companies with a significant number of PCs use RDS alongside RDP. RDS removes the hardware costs associated with buying the computers. It replaces them with single servers accessible from one or two central machines.

RDP doesn’t just connect to another computer. It’s more than capable of connecting with a server and accessing the data from there.

It’s also a boost for productivity if your company has multiple network servers. Seamlessly switching between servers saves time and ensures you can access the files you need quickly and simply.

Checking Up

As an employer, you want to make sure your employees are doing everything possible to increase company productivity. RDP gives you access to all other computers in your business. You can monitor what they’re doing in real-time, and even take control of them.

Since you access separate computers through a window on your machine, you can print screenshots of your employee’s activity.

It gives employers more control over their workforce. Administrators can watch their workers for a period of time and inspect processes which could warrant improvements.

Control on the Move

The rise of the smartphone in Australia and around the world has made staying in touch with everyone else easier than ever before. RDP also works with smartphones. All it needs is a local wireless Internet connection to work. With powerful Wi-Fi in most Australian cities, this makes it easy to send commands to your computers wherever you are.

As a decision maker, you might need to send something to a computer in the middle of traffic. For those decisions which just can’t wait, RDP can really save your hide.

Less Space

To have every worker on a computer in the same office costs money. Physical real estate in Australia isn’t cheap. Small businesses can reduce the amount of space they take up with RDP. It makes remote working and ‘hot desking’ a viable option for the first time.

You know you can see what they’re doing and they can keep in contact with you and each other at any time of day.

Mortgage Tips and building you own Business

April 6, 2013 by Reporter Leave a Comment

More and more Australians are taking the plunge and starting their own home-based businesses. There are currently over 1 million individuals operating a business from home, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. This number looks set to grow even larger with the easy availability of website building software.

The best website templates allow new business owners to create a professional ecommerce site from scratch, with little to no prior knowledge of web design. Recently there has been a surge in Real estate Start ups in Australia

Small business owner WEbsites builder

However, starting a home business requires more than simply setting up a website. You’ll need to think of legal issues like registering for company names, business licences, and taxation. Using your residence as a place of business will mean that you must comply with all state, territory, and federal government regulations. To get started with this process, it’s best to contact your local council for more information.

At the same time, home business owners in need of a new mortgage may find that they face some unique issues. Applying for a home loan when you are self-employed can involve a completely different process than the usual one for salaried workers. There may be zoning issues that could affect your mortgage, as well as different standards for assessing your income. It’s best to weigh all these issues to finance a home that will be suitable for your business needs as well.

Choosing the Right Live/Work Property

One of the first unique challenges that a home business owner faces is choosing a property that provides adequate room for business needs. If you have just started up a basic ecommerce site using a Shopify website builder, you will most likely only need one spare room. However, those who plan on meeting with clients could need a full floor of the home. This could also impact your mortgage rates if a significant percentage of the property is used for commercial purposes. The exact percentage will depend on the lender.

How Lenders Assess your Finances

Every lender uses its own methods for assessing your income. In most cases they’ll look at your income using one of three basic methods.

1. Using the most recent year’s income – Although most lenders will use an average over a greater time period, some will only look at earnings from the past year to assess your income.

2. Using the average income from the past two years – Calculating the average income from the past two financial years gives lenders a well-rounded picture of your self-employed earnings.

3. Using the lowest income out of the past two years – If the most recent year’s income is lower than the previous year’s, it may worry a lender who will assume that this downward path could continue into the future. In this circumstance, they may use the lower figure out of the two years as the basis of their assessment.

To assess your earnings from a home-based business, lenders will look at your most recent tax returns as well as other expenses and financial information. Income from other sources, such as rental income, will usually be deducted from the figure that is scrutinized.

Low Document Loans

If you’re unable to find a lender who will help finance a mortgage using traditional methods like tax returns, you may qualify for a low doc home loan. These are available to home business owners who don’t have adequate financial proof available to satisfy income requirements. However, they usually require a higher down payment of at least 20% of the purchase price, and incur higher interest rates than traditional mortgages.

Telstra plans to throttle customers internet speed

February 10, 2013 by Reporter Leave a Comment

Telstra is now planning to slow the speed at which its ADSL and Broadband  customers download content through peer-to-peer (P2P) networks in peak periods as part of a new trial to provide them with better bandwidth savings.

telstra shaping and throttling broaddband plans

A Telstra statement said it would be conducting the trial on a "small number" of ADSL customers in Victoria.

Broadband networks  have been coming under increasing pressure in recent times with the explosion of hand held devices like FAST smartphones and tablets  that now also add to the list of devices that consume internet , other than the traditional Desktop PC.

AS per a  statement , P2P networks are commonly used to download pirated material such as movies, music and video games and so  speeds of many consumers could be affected. Many popular software’s like torrents software’s and DC++ use peer to peer networks, including some chat messengers with the capability in the past.

As per media reports “the telco planned to introduce throttling as a "trial" that  could become permanent and which required users to opt out if they didn’t want to take part in it.The trial could begin as soon as this week.

Critics of ISPs says that interference with P2P  downloading or throttling could also affect users that use  peer  to peer networks for legal purposes.

"Once the trial is complete we will consider the results as part of our future network planning and product development activities," the company said.

Telstra published a blog post explaining its trial after Fairfax Media published this story.

New breakthrough to produce Nano Gadgets by Australian scientists

January 5, 2013 by Reporter Leave a Comment

A group of  advanced materials scientists at Australia’s Scientific research institution where WIFI was invented , The CSIRO and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology believe they have found a way to make “Graphene” more usable in electronics applications.

australian Invention Csiro RMIT molybdenum

Australian Research Breakthrough for Nano gadgets  potential

By creating these layered nano-sheets with these materials  the CSIRO’s Dr Serge Zhuiykov said “electrons are able to zip through with minimal scattering”.

According to scientists “ Exfoliation is used to create sheets of their material around 11 nanometers thick, which they then turned into a semiconductor to fabricate transistors”

The result is a device with electron mobility greater than 1,100 cm2/Vs (centimeters squared per volt-second), which they state exceeds the current standard for low dimensional silicon and the current silicon chips that are used in todays electronics

Currently silicon chips are said  to have reached their limit in speed and ability  to store a  sufficient electrical charge for more power hungry devices

According to RMIT’s Professor Kourosh Kalantar-zadeh,  with this breakthrough find  the material can be used to create devices and gadgets that are not only smaller  but will also support faster data transfer speeds.

The researchers  said that more work needs to be done, before they can develop actual gadgets using this new 2D nano-material. This new material has the  potential  for a new electronics revolution.

The research included participants from Monash University, UCLA, MIT and lead author RMIT doctoral researcher Sivacarendran Balendhran and CSIRO

The car that can fly over roads

December 25, 2012 by Reporter Leave a Comment

From Volkswagen, and a young gaming design student from Chengdu city in china , we get a flying car concept that fits not only our own desires for futurism but could become a  daily travel habit.

Have you ever daydreamed about your car taking off and flying over the road? This can happen now

Volkswagen concept car in China

The Volkswagen Hover Car is a pod-like zero-emissions vehicle that uses electromagnetic road networks to float above the road.

The small Volkswagen has two seats and a joystick and, to demonstrate how the car would work, a Chinese couple appears to put the flying car to the test around the bustling streets of Chengdu ( though honestly is all looks like Photoshop)

Europe, Australia , India want their fair share of tax

December 14, 2012 by Reporter Leave a Comment

The big American corporates are not safe anymore  with their complicated  tax structures  that let them pay minimum  tax . France and India ( vodafone case) have already started taking steps  to  amend  their country legislation to  make it harder  for  big corporates  to profit in their country without paying full tax.make money in their country while  small business and other countries  doe not get their fair share of  profits taken from their country.

UK and Australia  are currently are looking into the tax strategy known as the   Double Irish Dutch Sandwich ( The manoeuvre allows multinationals to move large amounts of money to other subsidiaries in the form of royalty payments )

dont tax me bro

Google chairman Eric Schmidt has defended the company’s tax policies, saying of the internet giant’s moves to get out of paying billions of dollars: “It’s called capitalism”.

Amazon, Google and Starbucks have been accused of an “immoral” use of secretive jurisdictions and complex company tax  structures to avoid paying tax on British profits by a committee of MPs.-http://www.guardian.co.uk

Europe and UK  hit hard with  the recession have also  amended tax laws and intend taking legal action  and more scrutiny of tax legislation  to  claw back more tax from these big American  company’s. The US itself is hurting with  it not getting much of the tax share  even though many of these top Tech companies are originally from  the US , but have their head offices in tax saving accounting havens with  the result of US also not benefitting much from the profits of these companies.

Apple Inc the tech company everyone knows paid an income tax rate of only 1.9 per cent on its earnings outside the US in its latest fiscal year reports Sbs.com.au

AMAZON

FRANCE has demanded $US252 million ($A242.72 million) in back taxes from Amazon, bringing into spotlight the online retailer over its controversial corporate structure in Europe.

The back taxes that the French are seeking from Amazon relate to earnings in France for the years 2006-10 and “the allocation of income between foreign jurisdictions”

Small, brick-and-mortar retailers have a legitimate gripe that Amazon’s avoidance of the sales tax gives it a competitive advantages

The guardian reports “ Amazon avoids UK taxes by reporting European sales through a Luxembourg-based unit. This structure allowed it to pay a rate of less than 12% on foreign profits last year – less than half the average corporate income tax rate in its major markets.”

Google.

Starbucks

The Seattle-based coffee STARBUCKS company has 700 British outlets in UK , but has paid just STG8.6 million in corporation tax in 14 years. Starbucks Corp says this is due to a process involving paying royalties to its European headquarters in The Netherlands – perthnow.com

Amazon and Google confirmed that the companies both use favourable tax jurisdictions – Luxembourg and Ireland, respectively – due to their low taxation levels.

Google

The soul of Google’s (GOOG) international operations is a plush looking office building in  Dublin. In 2009 the office, which houses roughly 2,000 Google employees, was credited with 88 percent of the search Company’s $12.5 billion in sales outside the U.S. Most of the profits from various countries surprisingly went to the tax haven of Bermuda and not even the USA.

The Australian government using a combination of beefed up transfer pricing rules and a commitment to setting up a think tank that will review the elaborate tax structures, is making it  clear that Google, Apple, Amazon and any other e-commerce giants will need to pay more tax in the future if its doing business on its  shores.

It could seem like a scene from a movie , a shady looking guy is working hard on his laptop in a busy city area , suddenly people start falling dead to the ground, clutching their chests.

Such a incident can now actually be a reality,  a person with some computer knowledge can easily cause harm to a person and security security researchers are raising the alarm about the security of implanted medical devices.
